In addition to earning a master's degree in human physical therapy from UC San Francisco in 1996, Atlas received certification in canine rehabilitation (CCR) from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in Florida. Physical examination often reveals evidence of arthritis. In some areas, canine rehabilitation specialists are available to assist in the management of arthritis with advanced physical therapy techniques. Rehabilitation therapy can include underwater treadmills, laser therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, ultrasound therapy and electric stimulation. Canine physical rehabilitation, like human physical therapy, uses techniques such as stretching, therapeutic exercises, aquatic therapy, low-level lasers, therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Though PetSafe just entered the Vet Therapy market a little over a year ago, the field has been in the history books for a few decades now. That is why, at Animal Medical of New City, we are now providing our patients with veterinary supervised physical medicine treatments such as therapeutic exercises, acupuncture, cold laser and ultrasound therapy and Dr. Tina recently became a CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner), earned through the University of Tennessee. Laser therapy applications now span the gamut of conditions of the full range of laser therapy applications currently available. Laser therapy has become an invaluable component of canine and equine rehabilitation – and is a tool that each and every clinic performing rehabilitation should possess.
